Bear !
(Male, 5 yrs., medium-large)

Bear is a sweet soul who is making his way to the arms of Big Heart Rescue from a remote First Nations community.

At this time this darling boy is having difficulty walking, and has large mats covering his body. The mats make him very uncomfortable and are causing him pain.

He is thought to be approximately 5 years of age, is neutered (by Big Heart Rescue in 2008) and will be vaccinated, microchipped, de-wormed, de-flead and vet checked as soon as he arrives in the lower mainland.

Bear will be fostered in the lower mainland with a wonderful family who will provide him with all the TLC he needs. Once he has seen the groomer he will feel like a million bucks!

If you are home the majority of the day, have a securely fenced yard and are looking for a new best friend please send Gail an email to spiritsmission@shaw.ca  and she will send you an adoption application.

A note from Bear's foster family
Bear is a wonderful, sweet dog.

He is adjusting to city life very well. His three favourite things in the world are:

- walks
- being petted and fussed over and
getting butt scritches (he's a leaner!)
- the couch

Bear has apparently never been walked on a leash before but he is doing very well on a front clip harness and is easy to walk. He is curious about the city, occasionally needs to stop and really look at things (he's like a tourist!) but he adores several long easy rambling walks a day.

He has been on his own a long time so he's still unsure about what is involved with being a pet - but he's willing to learn! He's smart, food motivated & will love clicker training. He's clever enough to "figure out" doors and gates and fences. If he doesn't get taken for a walk, he'll take himself, so he'll need a family dedicated to meeting his needs. He's not particularly high-energy or high activity level - he's just not used to hanging around the house yet, or playing with toys.

He gets along well with the house cat (but will chase street cats, squirrels etc). He gets along with the resident dogs and is fine with greeting dogs on leash. He's gentle and friendly with people. His tail is pretty much always gently wagging.

His coat was badly matted and he had to be shaved. His beautiful thick double coat will grow back though, and he will need weekly (or more frequent) thorough brushing to keep his coat beautiful. Fortunately, he enjoys being brushed and is fine with having his feet handled.

He has a very solid temperament. He is occasionally a bit uncertain about being indoors. Bear is an all around great dog who just needs someone to teach him all about belonging to someone. He has a lot of love to give.

If you're a person with a pair of sturdy walking shoes & a soft couch, his rambling heart will be yours.

Note: To adopt, you must live within a two hour driving distance of the lower mainland, or on Vancouver/Gulf Islands
