Bella Bella 2007 !

What a wonderful place!

Ana Marie, Dr.Dhaliwal, Cricket & Heather

The Raincoast Foundation and Big Heart Rescue combined forces to present a healthy dog clinic in Bella Bella on May 11th and 12th 2007.

During the clinic we were excited to see 31 dogs and 7 cats that were healthy for the most part, though a few are suffering from mange and enemia. The vets and their assistants worked at a pace that was comfortable for each animal as they came in for their vaccinations, blood work, flea treatments, ear cleaning and help with various minor wounds.   Each companion was treated with the dignity and kindness they so deserve and left with a goodie bag filled with home made cookies!

I love my ears being cleaned !

Dr. Dhaliwal also did home visits and provided ear mite medication, flea control and de-worming for many of the in-home resident cats that could not make it to the clinic.

Our team was also blessed to have the new Youth Volunteer Team of Big Heart Rescue help with information gathering, escorting owner's and their dogs and spending time with the vets learning all about what a healthy dog is.

Wave heads out on the boat

One of the highlights of the trip was the opportunity to join the Raincoast team and head by boat into the watershed to look for wolves.  The area is pristine, with a beauty that is almost unimaginable with eagles soaring (we did see a pair of eagles track down and kill a duck) and deer roaming on the grass lands.

We wish to send a huge thank you to the entire amazing Raincoast team for allowing us to be part of this exciting initiative, to the community of Bella Bella/Denny Island for welcoming us so warmly and to the member's of the police force who are the integral part of saving so many lives.

We look forward to continuing the tradition of assisting animals in this isolated area and hopefully next year a sterilization clinic can be held on site.
