Angeles !

Angeles arrived into the care of Big Heart Rescue emaciated and with a huge raw-to-the-bone open sore on his left rear leg. He was also very scared and unsure of the world around him, but so willing to love.

Now, 6 weeks later, his wound is close to being healed, he has been neutered, micro chipped, tattooed and gained approximately 5 lbs.!

After being attacked by several dogs in an isolated community, Angeles now is letting other dogs know that he is healthy and wants to play. He gets along with all other dogs, including the three he's sharing the foster home with. He does occasionally bark at another dog, but only until he told to quiet, he listens well and knows that he has to be quiet before he can visit another canine friend.

This stunning 1 to 2 year old Malamute cross boy weighs about 80 lbs. but should weigh about 95. He loves his food, but loves hugs even more. Angeles is now happy enough to romp and he can easily go for one-hour leash walks as long as he gets plenty of treats to replace any lost weight!

The sweetie knows basic commands including sit, lie down, stay, heel, watch me. He is a very a quick learner and will thrive in a positive reinforcement training class.

Angeles requires someone home the majority of the day and a securely fenced yard.

A note from Angeles' foster Mom

Since Angeles joined our household three weeks ago I have realized several things. The first is just how far Angeles has come in the last few months. The second is how smart this dog is and how eager he is to learn. The third is how much fantastic work his first foster mum did in teaching him so much already!

Angeles is gentle, well-behaved, calm indoors and good on a leash. He has almost learned that cats are not giant squirrels and is behaving really well around ours, although a running cat spied on a walk is still cause for excitement. Ours will often now sit in the same room as him and seem much less threatened by his appearance. He is learning about the joy of playing with toys and sticks and just adores snacks. He is putting on weight steadily and is looking better than ever.

Angeles still gets excited around larger dogs at first, but once he meets them he is without exception friendly and playful. He has made friends with a standard poodle and loves bowing and chasing him around a massive bush on our front yard. We are working on his recall; he is learning very quickly and we are looking forward to starting obedience classes soon, although he (for the most part) already knows all the basics.

There are so many exceptional things about Angeles. With his beautiful coat and sweet brown eyes folks seem just drawn to him, he gets so much attention on walks. He has such a gentle mouth-he takes treats tenderly, and he is so good with kids, he just sits down and lets them pet him. He will let us brush him anywhere, and while he was not impressed with his bath he behaved really well. He is calm inside the house-Angeles adores his bed and loves just hanging out with us in the living room. His droopy ears flop when he walks and his spotted jowls are pink and gray-his pads match and so does the inside of his mouth!

Angeles will make the perfect addition to any household that is looking for a lovely companion to cuddle with inside and to take on long walks, jogs or hikes.

Update: 15 April

A huge congratulations to Justine and family on adopting Angeles! You will spend a life time together exploring the woods, the beaches and the trails. May all your tomorrow's be filled with moments of joy and happiness as you learn about each other and grow old together.
