Charlotte !

Darling senior Charlotte came into the care of Big Heart Rescue after she was found sick and alone in Chilliwack.

This sweet girl had six rotten teeth removed and when being spayed it was discovered that she was full of infection as she was carrying two dead puppies.

She has recovered nicely from her surgeries and will be seeing her new vet with her loving foster Mom on Monday for an update and to be microchipped.

The note below is from a Big Heart Rescue volunteer who kept Charlotte safe before heading onto her new foster Mom.

Charlotte's been a very nice, polite house guest. It's hard to gauge her age, because she carries her age well. Only a bit of grey on her chin... but there is a stiffness and she doesn't move normally - kind of stilted. She goes up and down stairs, but you can tell she has a problem.

She was taken for a 10-minute walk this morning and she's not a puller, sometimes lagged, and after 10 minutes she sat down like that was enough. But she has lots of life in her, nice attitude, affectionate, calm, and very happy.

Big smile on her face all the time!

I took the blankie out of the crate and put it on the ground and right away Charlotte was laying on it, so I think she'll love a bed and when we take her out and tell her to pee-pee, she does.

I gave her a little bit of cottage cheese last night for a treat and she ate that up. This morning she had a cup-and-a-half of the softened kibble. I touched her bowls as she was eating and she showed no food aggression. She's been gentle when she takes treats.

In the time we've had her, she's shown no aggression. She's a very affectionate dog, full of smiles and wiggles.

Totally crate trained. You ask her to go in the crate and she does. Slept the whole night; in fact, when I got up at 5:30 to work she was still asleep and I woke her up.

As you can tell, we've enjoyed meeting Charlotte. She's a good girl. I'm glad her golden years... will be golden. She deserves it!!!!!!!!!!

A Note from Charlotte's new foster Mom:

Yes it's true, she is totally lovable.  Steve gave all the dogs a bath tonight, so everyone looks pretty. A good brushing in the morning should smarten them right up.  You can tell it's summer, and the shedding is easy!!

She loves to go in the car and is very relaxed.  She still seems rather thirsty, but we met a nice man when we stopped to look at RV's. He showed us a picture of his Doberman that was long gone, but obviously missed, and he was rather taken with Charlotte as well.

As the treats keep coming, she is starting to respond to her name - after all, it means good things are coming!  I started her on the supplements Jenn gave me today, and I hope they help with her stiffness. (she is starting to snore behind me.)  I threw a blanket down in the living room and that is where she spends most of her time.  She is obviously used to regular mealtimes, because at 5:00 she let me know that it was dinner time - in a very lady-like way of course.  She is settling in and starting to show more animation. She jumped up on me this evening, which really means that she gently and carefully (because movement is difficult for her), stood up and put her front paws in my hands. I don't really want to encourage this, because she could knock old or young people over, but it was nice to see the enthusiasm.

She is so smart and attentive, it shouldn't be hard to train her to come, stay, etc.  She doesn't like to be left behind and tried to bolt out of the house this afternoon when we went to pick my son up from work. I know she just wanted to get in the car with us, not dash out of the yard. She just wants to be with us. A great companion for someone.

Update: July 29

Sweet Charlotte has found heaven on earth with Sandi and Leslie!  Congratulations to you all and may days filled with sunshine, love and happiness be everything that the future holds for your loving family.
