Jewel Litter Puppies !

Big Heart Rescue was contacted by one of our volunteers in Bella Bella about a litter of puppies needing a new start in life. The Mother of these wee puppies delivered them approximately five weeks ago (as at 25 March). They are thought to be a husky x retriever cross. Because she just had a litter six months before, the mother is not interested in feeding her puppies any longer, and she is suffering from both malnutrition and exhaustion.
This week (25 March) much needed high quality food has been transported to Bella Bella because the Mom and puppies are currently surviving on a little rice and a few salmon scraps. Soon we will bring these innocent souls to the coast where they will be vetted, microchipped, de-wormed and vaccinated while under observation at a foster home.

When these sweet puppies are deemed healthy, they will be ready to be placed in adoptive or foster homes and we are now accepting applications from potential new families who have a secure fenced yard, are home most of the day or have an alternative caregiver and who are looking for a life long family member.
Update: April
Onyx and Jewel are just seven weeks of age and are thought to be husky and retriever cross with maybe some malamute mixed in.
You
can see that Jewel's tail is now beginning to curl (adjacent picture) and her
feisty personality is beginning to show itself! This little girl weighs about 8
lbs. and is more than thrilled to eat four times per day to keep her energy
levels high.
Sweet Onyx (pictured below) is stunning with his silver and black markings and enjoys playing with his sister and keeping his foster Mom entertained with all his puppy antics.
Yes, puppies are so cute! But, puppies will grow into dogs. Also, puppies require a tremendous amount of time and effort on your part.
Puppies need to be feed three or four times a day. They need to be house trained and will probably have "accidents" in your home.
Puppies
may cry and keep you up at night. Puppies chew and they might just chew up your
favourite chair.
Puppies dig and they might just dig up your newly planted rose bush. Puppies jump up and scratch you or others with their sharp claws.
Puppies nip and their sharp teeth hurt. Puppies need obedience training and they may still ignore you when you tell them "no".
Puppies need you home with them, so they can learn what love means!!
If you have a fenced yard, are home the majority of the day and can provide a ton of love to a puppy, please contact spiritsmission@shaw.ca and request an adoption application.
