Kaya !
This
is what Kaya's loving foster Mom has to say about this beautiful girl.
WANTED: Owner with balls!...tennis balls, that is!
Kaya is a 12-month old spayed female Lab cross and she came to Big Heart as a surrender because her owners did not want her anymore.
She was kept as a porch dog and upon arrival at my house, she had so many fleas, that she had lost some of her fur and her skin was pink and had many open sores from her scratching. Happily, the fleas are gone and with some good food and TLC, her skin and coat will improve with time.
Her personality has evolved from timid and scared to playful and cautiously happy. She does have a lot of strength and will require a person who can match that strength.
Kaya will make a perfect running partner especially for those long hills! She loves tennis balls and her ideal match would be someone with a good arm or preferably a tennis ball machine.
House-training is going very well with only the odd accident, which is mainly my fault as I don't read her signals very well until it is too late.
She
is a large dog, and although very gentle, she does lose focus of her
surroundings when excited, and as such could easily step on or knock over small
children. In saying that, she is far from a hyper dog and when I come home from
work, she gets up off her bed and saunters over to the door. Cookies get her
excited...there isn't much she won't do for a cookie.
She was absolutely terrified of my car but, again, cookies helped her cope. I have not seen any food or toy aggression with her, nor have I seen any destructiveness.
She is perfectly fine with my cat and there are no issues there. I did see her chase one of the many stray cats around my house, but as soon as I called for her, she returned. I think the difference lies in the fact that my cat is an inside cat and is not afraid of dogs and, as such, did not run away from her.
All in all - she's a Labrador at heart (as you can see, she is a mix but she is predominantly lab in looks and actions)...and you can't go wrong with a Lab.
Please note that Kaya is still in Bella Bella awaiting transport to the lower mainland or Vancouver Island.
