Lady Bug !

Little Lady Bug is just 12 weeks old and has suffered so much already. This little girl is under weight and has a condition called Demodex Mange.

As you can tell from the pictures, she is not a pretty sight on the outside but on the inside she is a happy playful pup who is in charge, independent and loves everyone!

Her house training has started and she is doing very well at such a young age, she is happy living with two other dogs in her foster home and is ready to explore the world.

If you are looking for a little girl who wants to run and romp, chase and catch, hide and seek then Lady Bug maybe your perfect match.

Update: June
(by Lady Bug's Foster Mom)

Lady Bug is healing fast. Her hair is filling in everywhere except for her head, but that will come too.

Lady Bug ( or LB as she is called) loves to play tug-of-toy with the other resident dogs and yesterday she played tug-of-grass clump in the park! The funny girl also started chasing her tail, & kept at it 'til she got dizzy.

All toys are fun - the squeakies, the balls & the plush animals, but her fave thing is playing with fellow canines.

All people & other dogs are fun to investigate. At the beach or the park LB loves seeing all the activity. Her little brow furrows when she's not sure about something new. As soon as she sees the response of her dog pals, she's right in the action.

I've never seen a dog eat so fast., yet LB is patient, & will sit while her other two friends get their bowls first.

Her understanding of commands is coming along nicely and she knows gentle means to play gently, quiet means not to bark at other dogs.

House training is almost finished - just the occasional accident still inside.

And true to all dogs, LB loves all the praise & love. She comes when called, since it always brings a hug & sometimes a treat. LB listens when chewing something that's not for her. She also knows to drop it & off.

Everyone loves this cute, sweet girl. All my neighbours say how fast she's healing. When left alone with one or both of her canine friends, LB is quiet & good. She's going to make some lucky family very happy. I love her, & she gives me so much back.

Update: June

(Yvonne, Big Heart Rescue Board Member and Vet Tech writes about the progress of Lady Bug and Marco)

Marco and Lady Bug came into the care of Big Heart Rescue approximately 3 weeks ago.

We took one look at these 2 little pups covered in Demodex Mange and knew something had to be done quickly.  In my 10 years of training at a holistic veterinary hospital I had learned one very valuable lesson.  Keep it simple and keep it natural.  This is when I decided to try the following treatment that has made our babies turn right around.

Detoxify - Raw diet
Remember when you detoxify you compromise the immune system so you have to boost the immune system.

Booster - echinacea leaves.

The mange causes the skin to produce yeast and sometimes fungus so I had to think what the best thing was for this.

Oil of Oregano - used internally to treat fungus and many other skin problems.

All mange puppies get dry and smelly so in order for our fabulous fosters to be able to bare the wee babes in their homes I had to think of how to keep them soft and not so stinky.

Canyon Meadow Moisturizing dog soap and  Dermal care spray

http://www.canyonmeadow.ca/pages/home.php

These are products I have been using for many years and they have never let me down.  They have helped keep the skin supple and allowed hair growth to come thru with ease. The soap keeps the skin soft and they smell wonderful.

Thank you to our wonderful fosters for keeping the treatment up and dedicating so much time and effort to help these babies.  In three weeks the yeast scabs have cleared up and the hair is growing back.  It is a slow process and there are sometimes set backs, but so far we are ecstatic with the results.

Update: June

Lady Bug is now approximately 14 weeks of age and guess what?  She now has almost all of her hair, no more need for a toupee for this girl!!!

LB's foster Mom has nothing but wonderful things to say about this lovely girl and is very proud to announce that she now knows basic commands, loves to walk on leash and play with other dogs.  She is a very social girl who accepts and gives love unconditionally.
