Spotlight on Volunteers
Karen

"To lead by example", how many times have we heard this phrase and what does it truly mean when applied to a volunteer? Big Heart Rescue's volunteer Karen is the steward of "leading by example"!  Just a few of the words that are used to describe this outstanding volunteer with the hugest heart are, dedicated, devoted, reliable, ethical and amazing.

When Karen approached BHR to provide her support for souls in need, we couldn't have imagined what an integral part of our family she would become or how we ever managed without her!

Volunteers are the backbone of any non-profit organization and with the countless hours spent by Karen who participates in every aspect of Big Heart Rescue she has most certainly logged in more time than any of us could even imagine.

Just a few of the activities that Karen takes great pride in are; fostering, transport, vet visits, picking up/ dropping off supplies, knitting beautiful cat beds, attending garage sales, manning information/educational booths, fundraisers and all of this she does with the utmost integrity and dedication.

Additionally, Karen "failed" fostering 101 and adopted beautiful Maddie (formerly Brownie) who became fast friends with Cory, Karen's other best furry friend.  Maddie and Cory now live a life together of sheer wonder where walks, love and cuddles are on the agenda everyday.

It was fantastic to have Karen attend the volunteer team building training in Vancouver this year because her enthusiasm during the day was so valued and it was clearly evident that we are blessed to be part of Karen's decision to open her heart, her home and her arms to BHR.

Karen has now decided to take on a new learning curve and she is in training for home visits, providing potential adopters the opportunity to ask questions about the adoption process and to ensure that their potential new companion is the right match for the canine they may be interested in.

The hugest heart felt thank you goes out to Karen for all that you do for those who truly cannot speak for themselves!

Sincerely,

The Board of Directors
