Spotlight on Volunteers
Kerri-Lynne
No words can begin to describe how grateful Big Heart Rescue is to Kerri-Lynne, the foster Mom and volunteer extraordinaire!
Over the years Kerri-Lynne has fostered many of our special needs companions who are either seniors or in need of medial rehabilitation. With her kind heart and healing touch Kerri-Lynne has managed to support a companion at every turn, be it going to the vets, doing home care, post operative recovery or something as simple as an extra cuddle at night or an afternoon of stick throwing.
In addition to fostering Kerri-Lynne also assists with grant and proposal writing, volunteering at the yearly Gala, completing home visits and networking on behalf of all the souls in care of Big Heart Rescue.
The hours spent loving and training a foster dog are countless yet the rewards are beyond heart warming and Kerri-Lynne has found the magic of watching a scared or ill dog become whole in both spirit and body.
Of special note is Kerr-Lynne's devotion to her first foster "failure", Joey (see Joey's full story on the front page) who came to her as a sick and frightened boy, it would take many interventions to assist Joey in his road back to health and comfort. Joey over came many obstacles during his journey with Kerri-Lynne and her devoted husband Terry. These were huge obstacles including open heart surgery, many medications and a slow rebuilding of his health.
Joey had a wonderful time being a "normal" dog, he swam with his tail as a rudder, he fetched sticks and balls for hours on end, he played with his sisters Keara and Luna and cleaned his foster sisters ears, which Pearl loved. He ran the softly wooded trails and enjoyed games of hide and seek as he searched for his Mom and Joey knew she could not hide very well, so she was easy to find!
Sadly, Joey began to lose his fight for good health and was experiencing congestive heart failure. No longer could medical interventions and love make a difference for this beautiful boy and he was gently held in the comforting arms of his Mom as he was let go to be free and run to the Rainbow Bridge.
The entire BHR team grieved along with Joey's family and we could not have wished for a better life for Joey than what he experienced on the farm with his one and only true family.
From the bottom of our hearts we wish to thank Kerri-Lynne, Terry, Keara and Luna for allowing so many special souls to be welcomed into your home, to be adored and made ready for their next step in finding a family to call their own.
With heartfelt gratitude,
The Board of Directors
